Today, the University of Cantabria is opening a two-day event to teach Bitcoin and blockchain technology with the goal of educating people about the power of disruptive financial technology.
During the July 14-15 event, students and guests will receive education on Bitcoin innovation and blockchain technology solutions. This will be the first summer course at a public Spanish university covering these subjects.
The course is sponsored by SofCloudIT, K2partnering, and San Diego-based Airbitz.
Day one of the event will feature theoretical modules, such as “history of electronic money,” “fundamentals of Bitcoin,” and “using Bitcoin.”
Day two will cover the Bitcoin ecosystem, explore the cryptocurrency industry, and introduce the blockchain.
Speakers at the event include Claudiu Tanasescu, a software developer and Bitcoin enthusiast; Óscar González Fernández, a quantitative researcher in algorithmic trading; and Steven Van Vaerenbergh, a researcher in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Pangman told Bitcoin.com his company will supply students with Airbitz accounts for the “using Bitcoin” module, and that the team is always eager to support cryptocurrency education. Pangman said the university’s faculty wanted a streamlined process for onboarding their students with new bitcoin wallets, and identified Airbitz as their preferred provider.
SofCloudIT is offering five scholarships to graduate and postgraduate students in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics.
The target audience for the coursework is aimed at those looking to be professionals in financial technology sectors and students with basic knowledge of software and technology. Organizers say that no specific knowledge is officially required to participate in the classes, though, as they are introductory in nature.
Classes will be taught in Spanish, for roughly seven hours per course, in addition to workshops. Students are asked to bring a smartphone, tablet or laptop to learn how to transact with bitcoin.
The courses will be held at the Aula 9 of the Law Faculty room at the University of Cantabria.
