Robinhood Puts Its Own Assets Into Bitcoin

Bitcoin is becoming part of Robinhood’s corporate balance sheet through a $25 million allocation disclosed Oct. 7. Johann Kerbrat, senior vice president and general manager of crypto and international at Robinhood Markets Inc. (Nasdaq: HOOD), described the decision as a diversification measure. The financial services company offers brokerage accounts, cryptocurrency trading, and other investment products.

Kerbrat confirmed the bitcoin addition to Robinhood’s balance sheet on X, stating:

“I’m excited to share we’re adding $25 million of bitcoin to our balance sheet. We believe firmly in the future of crypto and view this as a strategic move for our overall asset diversification.”

Blockchain analytics platform Arkham separately characterized the transaction as Robinhood’s first corporate bitcoin purchase in an Oct. 7 post on X. The firm wrote: “Robinhood just bought $25M of bitcoin to add to their corporate balance sheet. This is the first time they have bought BTC. HOOD is bullish on BTC.”

A $25 Million Position Within a Larger Crypto Business

Arkham’s Robinhood wallet and holdings dashboard groups cryptocurrency addresses attributed to the business and displays balances, transfers, and counterparties. The accompanying tracker shows approximately $24.4 billion across tracked assets. That total represents broader attributed holdings, rather than the newly announced investment.

The purchase is modest relative to Robinhood’s $5.4 billion in second-quarter cash and cash equivalents, reported for June 30. The $25 million allocation represents approximately 0.46% of that earlier balance. Quarterly net revenue reached $1.31 billion, while cryptocurrency trading revenue declined 38% from a year earlier to $100 million.

Holding the cryptocurrency directly exposes part of Robinhood’s assets to price fluctuations. Bitcoin operates on a decentralized network that records transactions without a central administrator.

Bitcoin Ownership Joins a Broader Crypto Expansion

Robinhood’s direct bitcoin exposure follows its $200 million acquisition of crypto exchange Bitstamp, completed June 2, 2025. The transaction added an institutional crypto business and expanded its international reach.

The company also launched Robinhood Chain and new stock tokens on July 1. The blockchain supports financial services and tokenized assets. The stock tokens provide economic exposure to underlying securities, subject to eligibility restrictions, without granting ownership rights in the referenced shares.

More recently, Robinhood outlined new automated trading tools and U.S. crypto perpetual futures at its Sept. 29 product event. Perpetual futures are contracts that track an asset’s price without a fixed expiration date. The U.S. contracts, offered by Robinhood Derivatives in partnership with Bitstamp, carry leverage of up to 10 times for bitcoin and ethereum, allowing exposure worth up to 10 times the posted collateral.
