No, I’m not referring to the popular 1994 children’s track titled Banana Phone which became quite popular on the Internet in the mid 2000’s. This is a real phone that looks like the fruit.

Banana enthusiasts around the world, you’ll be pleased to know that your unspoken need for a banana phone has been answered.  The phone is brainchild to three best friends who created this concept to inspire people to talk and smile more. The Banana team wants you to pick up their phone and start a conversation instead of being distracted by endless texts and notifications.

The idea is both fun and playful and I can appreciate the concept behind the Banana phone, but due to it’s silliness in all practicality I’m not so sure if I’ll be seeing anyone walking down the street talking on a Banana phone just yet. But don’t let this deter you from getting one. It’s available on Indiegogo for about  R541.28 and includes shipping.

So how does it work? It’s easier than peeling a banana.

Pair the Banana to your iOS or Android compatible smartphone via Bluetooth. Now you’re ready to receive incoming calls and to make calls via Siri or Google Assistant using the voice activation feature.

The phone has a talk time of up to 10 hours and for the environmentally conscious, the phone is made a hundred percent from recycled ABS plastic. The device is hilarious,  but stretches far beyond it’s humorous appeal (yeah, that pun). It supports Gearing Up  for Gorillas conservation and one per cent of all sales will be donated to the endangered Mountain Gorillas.

If you want to get your hands on one of these Bananas, visit the crowdfunding site and show your support.
