AMC Theatres, the largest theater chain in the U.S, is accepting dogecoin and other cryptocurrencies as payment for digital gift cards.
- Customers can buy gift cards up to a value of $200 a day online, in app or in theaters using a BitPay wallet, CEO Adam Aron tweeted Wednesday.
- On an earnings call in August, Aron said that the chain would begin accepting bitcoin as payment for tickets and concessions by the end of the year.
- AMC has 593 U.S. theaters and 335 international locations.
- Dogecoin, the meme-based cryptocurrency, responded positively to the news, hitting its highest value in over three weeks at over $0.27 before subsequently pulling back. At the time of writing, DOGE is priced at $0.244.
