As expected, the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV will come with a $37,495 price tag.
Some eligible customers can expect to pay a base price of about $30,000 after a $7,500 federal tax credit.
“Value is a hallmark for Chevrolet and the pricing of the Bolt EV proves we’re serious about delivering the first affordable EV with plenty of range for our customers,” Alan Batey, president of GM North America, said in a statement. “We have kept our promise yet again, first on range and now on price.”
Last week, Chevy announced an EPA-estimated range of 238 miles.
Chevrolet first revealed its Bolt EV concept at the 2015 North American International Auto Show. A year later, the vehicle returned to the stage at CES 2016.
With a DC fast-charging system, the Bolt EV—its battery incorporated into the car’s chassis, mounted beneath the passenger cabin—can reach 80 percent charge in 60 minutes, or get fully juiced overnight. The electric vehicle can hold up to five passengers, and features 17 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat.
Its “EV-specific routing” system highlights itineraries that maximize range or include a charging station. Plus, the range predictor takes into account topography, temperature, and your driving habits to determine whether the car will need a top up before reaching its destination.
The Bolt also features a wide-angle rear camera mirror that shows everything behind the car, as well as a floating instrument panel with 10.2-inch touch screen and support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Drivers can tap into a smartphone app to check on the car’s battery level, read the owner’s manual, and pre-set cabin temperature.
In October, GM teamed up with LG on Bolt EV development: LG shares it expertise in infotainment, battery systems, and component development, while General Motors focuses on electric motor design, battery control, system validation, and vehicle body/system integration. As part of the deal, LG has invested more than $250 million in an engineering and manufacturing facility in Korea, which supports component development and manufacturing of Bolt EV parts.
